Ethiopian American business giant Eyob Joe Mamo has pitched into the Tysons development project. The project called The View at Tysons is a 3 million-square-foot project with 8500 blocks of Leesburg Pike and featuring what would be Greater Washington tallest building.

According to The Washington Business Journal, two corporations Tysons MK LLC and Tysons MK II LLC which are controlled by Eyob Joe Mamo, have filed applications to redevelop 8520 and 8526 Leesburg Pike with three mixed-use towers. The Mamo affiliates paid $44.25 million for the retail center and $24 million for the service station in July 2018.

Eyob Joe Mamo, a business giant in D.C. area, the owner of Capitol Petroleum, has generated a reported $778Million annual revenue. He owns or operates a gross of 164 gas stations around DC and 71 stations in New York City.

Capitol Petroleum Group is a leading wholesale distributor of petroleum services in the metropolitan Washington, D.C. and New York City regions. The organization started in 1987 with the purchase of a single Amoco-branded gasoline service station franchise in Washington, D.C. For over twenty-five years, the company has continued to expand its retail network, and it now owns, operates or supplies retail sites in the metropolitan Washington, D.C. and New York region.

Eyob’s father, who owned Mamo Kacha bus company in Addis Ababa, sent Joe to North Dakota boarding school in 1981 to protect him from the Derg regime which brought difficulty for youth in Ethiopia.
When Eyob went to America, the 13-year-old kid couldn’t imagine someday he would control a gas station empire on the east coast. However, now the 44 years old man is the founder, owner, and CEO of privately held Capitol Petroleum Group, which controls 42 percent of Washington, D.C.’s gas stations. His Eastern Petroleum is in second place with 30 B.P. locations, according to current public records. He is now called the king of D.C.’s gas business.
